With roads covered in snow and ice throughout the region, Grande Prairie Enforcement Services is encouraging motorists to pay attention to the roads and their vehicles while driving in winter conditions.
Some winter driving tips include:
Ensuring your vehicle is clear of frost and snow to provide the best visibility possible
Slowing down and remember that posted speed limits are intended for ideal road conditions
Leaving more space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you to allow for slippery stops
Keeping your headlights on all the time; do not rely on daytime running lights
Using low beam lights, which are more effective than high beam lights in fog or heavy snow conditions
Signalling well in advance of turning to give other motorists time to anticipate and react
Installing winter rated tires
“Winter conditions are always the most difficult to drive in,” says Peace Officer Sergeant Ryan Hoffman. “We encourage all motorists to take their time while driving, leave extra space between your vehicle and those around you, and avoid distractions. We want to ensure that everyone gets home safely.”
